Leo Ku - Album & Concert Promo Tour
3 November 2012
Chatime, Bukit Mertajam / Straits Quay
I’ve set my alarm at 7am… But I automatically woke up at 6.30am @_@ Only had about 3 hours of sleep…. But I got up straight away and got myself ready… to go to Penang!
Went out to take the bus and LRT to meet up with Wai Yee and Terry in Pandan Jaya. Joey was supposed to join us but she wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t make it. So, only 3 of us + Hui San who’ll be going to Penang by flight.

'Nam thin yue bak wan' :) |
We had pan mee for breakfast before we start our journey and suddenly, Wai Yee realised she forgot to bring something (the banner! :p). Headed over to her home and grabbed the stuff before we start our journey. Weather was quite OK along the way except for a little drizzle.
Our first stop the moment we reached the island, was to Penang Road…. For Cendol! & Assam Laksa! XD
Next, we have to search for the hotel where we’ll be staying. Traffic was quite bad and it took us some time to finally locate the hotel – Chulia Heritage Hotel.
We checked in at the counter, got our keys but the rooms were not ready yet?? We were kinda upset cuz’ it was already 4pm + and yet the rooms are still not ready. We initially wanted to freshen up before we go to Bukit Mertajam but they will need some time to get the rooms ready.
The event will start at 6pm and we wanted to be there earlier before 6pm for the necessary arrangements. We’re not too familiar with the place but thanks to the GPS, we found the Chatime in Bukit Mertajam. It’s a huge 3-storey corner lot!?
We headed straight to the 1st floor. They’ve already arranged all the chairs with buntings. We also put up our banner there :) Hui San arrived later and we’ve also submitted our names for the lucky draw.

With Mr Mak of Starplanet |
The sky started to turn very dark and I got the feeling that there’ll be delays. It started to rain very heavily but despite that, fans started to show up for the event. A few of them also approached us, wanting to join the fan club :) Seems that it is also difficult to get Leo’s album here and they have yet to get the latest album. The good news for them is, the album will be on sale in Straits Quay later.

New fans found :) |

Hui San leading the rest on welcoming Leo later |
The event in Straits Quay is supposed to start at 8pm but Leo has yet to arrive for the event in Chatime @_@ He finally made it at around 8.30pm. With all the delays, he was seriously in a hurry.
|
Lucky Draw... |
Fans were so excited the moment he walked into the room. He apologised for the delay. Although he is already late for the next event, he made a brief appearance in Chatime, quickly did the lucky draw (our lucky Hui San won!) and a quick group photo with fans. They have to skip the autograph session.
Right after the photo session, he has to leave already. Not only was he in a hurry.. so were we! It’s good thing that Terry knows the fastest way to reach the island and traffic was smooth. We were worried that we’ll be late but once we reached Straits Quay, Leo was not there yet. Phew! Hui San arrived later and she said the traffic was quite bad at the route that she took.
Even though Leo was very late, there were a lot of people waiting patiently for him. I think it was 9pm+.
While waiting for Leo, DJ Victor called for 5 girls and 5 guys for games (same game in Berjaya Time Square). But only 6 people raised their hands, so only 3 couples instead of 5. They were given a goody bag after the game.
Everybody cheered when Leo arrived. He kept apologising for being so late. He explained that the flight was delayed and he rushed to Bukit Mertajam straight away but was greeted by the storm as well, and topped with the bad traffic from Bukit Mertajam to Straits Quay.
He thanked everybody for being so patient and DJ Victor also mentioned that we (the few from the fan club) have been so supportive having to rush to Straits Quay (he forgot to mention that we came all the way from KL! Xp)

Hi little girl............ |
They talked about his coming concert and also latest album. Halfway through the conversation, something caught Leo’s eyes. A cute little girl (just a few years old) was trying to snap a picture of Leo. Leo looked at her and said ‘Hi little girl. Are you trying to take a picture of me? Why not I come closer so that you’ll have a better shot?’ He then moved forward nearer to the girl and squatted down. It’s so obvious from his face that he’s really fond of kids.
After that, fans got the chance to ask him questions as well. Before the event, I spoke to Wai Yee about asking him questions – cuz’ we never really get the chance to ask him things, so we’re taking the opportunity to ask now :p Leo was cheeky and funny as usual throughout the Q & A session.
Question from Wai Yee was “If you’re not the Leo Ku that you are today, what would you be? Would you be married and having kids by now?” Leo said would probably be an artist. He also said he has worked as a delivery man and sales personnel before but it’s proven to be not his type of job as he tend to be too playful at work. He’s glad that with his current job, he gets to be playful.

Wai Yee asking Leo questions... but the picture looked like he was singing to her :p |
He also described himself being a ‘dai lam yan’ but in a good way as he believes a man got to do what a man got to do. If not because he’s in the entertainment industry now, he would probably be happily married in his 20’s and with kids since he likes kids a lot. It’s as if getting married and having kids is a job!? Wai Yee then said she’s glad that he is the Leo Ku that he is today, if not she won’t be able to know a bunch of great friends, all because of him :)
My question to him was “You’ve been to Malaysia a number of times for promotional events and also concerts, but do you get the chance to travel in Malaysia?” I’m not sure if DJ Victor has got something else in his mind as he sort of twisted my question a bit, saying that it’s a very personal question. (huh??). My intention with this question is more like to promote tourism Malaysia cuz’ seriously we do have a lot of nice places in Malaysia worth visiting, for leisure and relaxation. Maybe DJ Victor thought I wanted to stalk Leo when he’s on vacation? Lol! Well, he can rest assured that I won’t as I respect other people’s privacy.
Anyways, Leo said most visits are for work but when he did have the time he would walk around but most of all, he enjoys good food a lot and asked if there’re any recommendation for nice Penang food.
The first thing I said was Laksa – he said ‘Ah! Laksa.. I tried before. Nice!’ (I’m not sure if he’s referring to curry laksa or assam laksa, personally, I think foreigners might find it hard to accept the strong taste of assam laksa), then followed by Cendol. Leo asked what is ‘jan toll’?? DJ Victor was trying to describe what is Cendol. In Cantonese, some of us tend to call Cendol as ‘Jin Dui’. So, when Leo heard ‘Jin Dui’, he thought it’s the fried dumplings that we normally have. DJ Victor described our ‘Jin Dui’ is not those ‘Jin Dui’… ours is ‘yat thiu thiu’ (in strips). A great way to confused Leo more as he said ‘huh? Yat thiu thiu? (in strips) Not ‘yat lup lup’ (in balls shape) ge meh?’
I find the whole conversation hilarious and DJ Victor has got no idea how to describe it anymore. In the end, I said let’s just called it a type of local dessert :p
Other food I mentioned was prawn mee, char kuey teow… etc.. Leo then said, ‘Ah.. why not next time you guys buy me nice food to eat when I’m here??’ I just gave him an ‘OK’ sign with a grin. He laughed and said he was just kidding! (ya.. we know how much you want to try cendol now lol!)
When DJ Victor asked if anyone else got questions, Leo said we can ask anything, maybe if anyone wants to know more about visiting Hong Kong. A girl asked where she should visit if she’s to go to Hong Kong. At this point, Hui San blurted out ‘your home!’… and Leo heard. XD He said you know what she said just now? She said visit my home!? DJ Victor looked at us and said ‘Don’t tell me you know where’s his home as well?? Or you’re just pulling our legs?? ‘
Leo mentioned a few places and also joked that they can also visit his ABC boutique and if they do visit ABC, he make sure that they’ll get 30% discount… which he added later that, actually, there’s a sale going on and everybody will be entitled 30% discount anyway :p
Another female fan told him that she has been a fan for 15 years already.. which made Leo joked about his age again. (still em ying lou :p)

One male fan also sketched a portrait of Leo. Leo asked the fan to show the sketch to everybody. He asked Leo if he’ll be willing to accept it. Leo said sure! But please sign it before you give to me :)
And lastly another question from a male fan (he was also in Bukit Mertajam earlier) asked Leo to consider having a concert in Penang and also to try on different genre of music, including rock for his future works on music. He also asked Leo to release an album every year! Leo said it takes time to work on an album and he has to ensure that the album is of high quality before releasing it. So, it is not something that he should rush on.
The autograph session started after that. There’s a booth selling his latest album there and as usual, fans can get a copy of the CD and get Leo’s autograph.
Unfortunately, the organiser only allow autograph on the latest album, so I couldn’t get him to sign my DVD. He gave me a signed poster instead. As for Wai Yee, Leo signed the album earlier in Time Square. So, for this time, Leo just topped up with her name :p As for Hui San, though the organiser didn’t allow me to get my DVD signed, Leo was being nice and he signed on her DVD anyway. And the best thing of all? He wrote her name on it.. without her telling him her name :D I’m sure he could remember her by now, after all the hard works she has done for his visits.
While Leo was still busy with the autograph session, Hui San rushed off to get him some food but by the time she came back, Leo has already left. Shucks! No worries Hui San, I’m sure someone would have fed him food without starving him :p
It was already almost 11pm… and guess what? We have yet to have our dinner! We went to the ladies and get changed. Hui San has other plans, so we went separate way.
We went out hunting for food and had prawn mee with roast pork, fried oyster and some cendol and ABC (should also confuse Leo more with ABC... being the same name of his boutique! :p) It’s either we were super hungry or the prawn mee was damn good… yums!
We headed back to the hotel after that, and finally we get to check in to our rooms. First thing… hot shower!! … and have a good rest before our journey back to KL the next day….
A big thank you to Terry... he must be darn tired driving throughout the journey and also a big thank you to Starplanet for being so awesome with the arrangements for us :)
