Leo Ku - Album & Concert Promo Tour
2 November 2012
Berjaya Time Square, KL / Chatime Puchong
I was actually shocked when I received an sms from Soo Mei, informing me that Leo will be coming to Malaysia again for a concert in Genting Highlands. I was like WHAT?? After 4 years (I have to reduce from 5 years as we claimed earlier as Leo said it’s just 4 years and not 5 years :p) Anyways, with news like that means he will be here prior to the concert to do promotion and true enough, we also got news of his promo tour in Malaysia. First stop is in Berjaya Time Square, KL. While it’s just like any other promo event for anyone, but for us, there seems to be a lot of work to be done :p All thanks to Hui San for all the arrangements. She even came up with the idea of asking us to bring an empty bottle to the venue. We joked if those bottles are meant to be thrown at Leo when he’s here? (for not visiting us for so long!) Lol I took the bus, LRT then monorail to get the Berjaya Time Square. The journey by bus and LRT was a pleasant one but I don’t miss taking the monorail at all!
I reached Berjaya Time Square by 6pm and some of the members were already there. We have a booth, our banner up and Hui San and Soo Mei were distributing the concert tickets (we booked in bulk from the organiser). And so what is the empty bottle for? They are to be filled up with peas to make it our ‘music instrument’ :p
Slowly, most members showed up 1 by 1… including our dear Rina, who came all the way from Jakarta just to support the event. We’re happy that we also have new members joining us :)
We sort of ‘rehearsed’ a bit singing Yau Gung Ching accompanied with our ‘music instrument’. The video camera man insisted we keep singing for him to record lol
DJ Victor started the event. As usual, it started with games. He selected 10 people and he got this preference of people who’re wearing glasses. He claimed people with glasses are very good looking. :p
Participants were asked to pair up – 1 guy & 1 girl in a team. The girls were given a cup of bubble tea with pearls in it, and a stirrer. The girls will have to stand behind the guys and they have to scoop up the pearls to be fed to the guys in front, while the guys will need to finish the whole bottle of mineral water. Scooping up pearls using that tiny stirrer is really challenging?! All the participants were given a goody bag after that.
Everybody got excited seeing Leo walking towards the stage. The DJ asked Leo some questions and on his preparation for the concert. Leo mentioned he’ll need to train back his muscles, which he called them Mickey and Minnie :p Also, especially for Malaysian fans he will be singing both Cantonese and Mandarin songs for the concert in Genting (he only sang in Cantonese for the concert in Hong Kong).
As for the latest album, he said it's one of his favourite album that he has worked on and it's based on his past relationships. He even cried while recording one of the songs that he has to stop the recording, as he has gone too emotional to continue. With a song title 'Shirley', he has also mentioned that it is the name of one of his ex-girlfriends.
DJ Victor mentioned that he heard us singing earlier and asked what song are we going to sing for Leo. We told them ‘Yau Gong Qing’ which got Victor wondering why we’ll be singing an old song instead of his new songs? Leo said obviously this bunch of people are ‘quite old’ already, so they only know my old songs XD and later add on that the song is our ‘anthem’ to represent our friendship. Everybody sang the song accompanied with the sound from the bottles with peas… and Leo also sang together with us :)
DJ Victor called for 3 people to participate in another game. Leo was very cheeky when throwing the dice and at one point, for being too playful, accidently dropped the mic. His look was priceless and kept apologising as he knows the mic is very expensive. But the mic was still working, so no damage there. Honestly, I don’t get how the game works LOL! Even DJ Victor got confused with the numbers that Leo even picked on him for his poor calculations :p The participants were given a goody bag after the game.
| Oops!? |
The DJ also chose a number of people from the audience to ask Leo any questions. There were questions on marriage etc even asking him why is he so handsome lol! He said the secret to youthful look is by being young at heart and happy :) I find it funny when someone told him that she’s been listening to his songs/watched his movies/drama since she was very young (and she’s 22 now). He said he started singing/acting at a very young age (not admitting he’s getting old now) and said that she’s older than him 2 years Xp
Another person also asked if he’ll consider acting in comedies as it has been a while since he was in a comedy series (referring to the drama ‘Instinct’). He said he’s too old for such role now but if Ekin will act in this type of show again, he will also consider it (in a joking manner).
My friend, Louise also made a request for Leo to wish our friend a happy birthday. Coincidently, Soo Mei and Fung’s birthday was on 3 Nov. Instead of just a birthday wish, his wish was like… the usual wish for a couple / wedding :p
Hui San also requested him to sing.. and he said he will only sing if we sing together. Everybody started to sing Luin Mou Hor Luin… and slowly, he joined in the singing as well :)

I also didn’t miss the part when we presented him with a video clip that Hui San and Soo Mei made. The girls were trying to get the clip playing but it’s only showing a blank screen and Leo joked.. wa… so this is what you’re trying to show me?? Finally got it running in the end. Phew!
As we watch the clip… it’s quite a nostalgic moment if you ask me. It’s a compilation of photos of all his visits to Malaysia since the 90’s with the songs ‘Nei Si Ngo Dik Soon Sum’ and ‘Yau Gong Qing’ playing at the background.
He joked about us being such pirates for the video recording from one of the concerts :p DJ Victor ‘warned’ us not to record during the coming concert but Leo said it’s OK if you’ve ‘accidently’ recorded it. LOL! (we make sure accidents happen then :p) He also said he looks younger as he age after looking through at all the photos.
Hui San gave him a copy of the clip for his remembrance. Somehow for some of the clips, he can’t seem to remember that it actually took place??
After that, we took turn to take photo with him. We were divided into a group of 10. My friend Louise came with Brandon as well.

After our group photo, Louise introduce Brandon to Leo, saying ‘This is my lou kung, he’s a big fan of yours!’ Leo shook hand with Brandon and said ‘Hi Lou Kung’! XD Brandon was like ‘huh?? He called me lou kung!?’ lol!
After Leo left, we stayed on at Chatime and had a brief birthday celebration for the birthday girl and boy :) aka.. the newly wed .. ahahaah
It was already 12.30am when I reached home. Started to pack my luggage as I have another mission on the way…………
Haha, ur "report" really great n detail, these r our best memories. Thanks JC.
